2 dead, 6 wounded in shooting in New Mexico resort town during motorcycle rally

At least two people were killed and six others wounded in a shooting Saturday during a popular annual motorcycle rally in New Mexico, state police said.

The extent of the injuries was not available. New Mexico State Police said one of the survivors was flown to Denver for treatment. A news conference on the shooting was expected Saturday night.

in a a video interview With the Questa Del Rio News, Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun said the shooters were detained in the incident, which involved motorcycle gang members. Calhoun later confirmed those details to NBC News.

State police, which did not provide any information about the arrests or who may have been involved, said the scene is safe and there is «no continuing threat to public safety.»

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. on the city’s main street, near two retail stores, Calhoun said.

State police said earlier in the evening that the agency was investigating a shooting in the city. He did not provide additional information about the shooting or possible victims.
