Aerocivil spoke about flight delays due to computer failure in the US – Sectors – Economy

As a result of the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA, for its acronym in English) reporting a failure in the Notification of Area Missions (Notam) system, the Aerocivil ruled on its effects on arriving or departing travelers from Colombia.

The Notam system allows crews to find out about risks or developments that may affect the safety of flights. Because of this inconvenience, the FAA probably grounded the planes for about an hour and a half.

Due to an emergency, Colonel José Luis Avendaño, deputy general director (e) of Civil Aeronautics, assured that the flights can present delays of 30 or 60 minutes. The airlines have stated that there are no significant flight delays.

The deputy director general (e) also stated that the Area Missions Notification system has already is being reset and the FAA lifted the ground stop measure that was decreed this morning.

«Normal air traffic operations are gradually resuming in the US following an overnight outage of the Air Mission Notification System,» the FAA tweeted.

Every day there is approximately 70 air operations between the United States and Colombia. 50 percent of them depart from El Dorado Airport and the rest from eight other terminals in the country.

According to the Flightaware flight tracker, you already there are 5,417 flight delays within, to and from the United States and 900 cancellations.
