Austin Majors, ‘NYPD Blue’ Child Actor, Dies at 27


LOS ANGELES (AP) — Austin Majors, a child actor who got his start on «NYPD Blue,» has died. He was 27 years old.

Majors, who also went by the name Austin Setmajer-Raglin, died Saturday at a residence, according to the Los Angeles County coroner.

«Austin Majors (Setmajer-Raglin) was an artistic, brilliant and kind human being,» his sister, Kali Majors-Raglin, said Monday. «Austin was very happy and proud of his acting career.»

A cause of death has not been determined pending further investigation, the coroner’s office said.

Majors was born in 1995 and, by the end of the decade, was playing Theo, the son of «NYPD Blue» lead Andy Sipowicz, a detective played by Dennis Franz.

Majors appeared in 48 episodes through the mid-2000s, according to IMDb. She has also appeared on other primetime shows, including «ER,» «According to Jim,» «NCIS,» and «How I Met Your Mother.» She has acted in a relatively wide range of television and film projects, including «Desperate Housewives,» «American Dad!» and the animated film «Treasure Planet.»

«Most people will remember him as young Theo Sipowicz on ABC’s ‘NYPD Blue’ and the voice of young Jim on Disney’s ‘Treasure Planet,’ but we will remember him as the warm-hearted, generous and caring person he was» , Philip Marcus, a director of Clear Talent Group, which represented Majors for several years, in a statement. «Austin’s talents were limitless.»

Kali Majors-Raglin, an actor who has appeared on “ER” and “NCIS,” said that after graduating from the University of Southern California, where he studied film and television production, his brother showed “a passion” for “directing and musical production».

She said her brother «never met a stranger and his goal in life was to make people happy.»

She said they both liked backpacking and volunteering at Kids With a Cause events.

«Austin was the type of son, brother, grandson and nephew to make us proud and will be deeply missed forever,» he said.
