Brazilian authorities say they have dismantled a criminal organization that they consider the “greatest destroyer” of the Amazon rainforest.
The gang is accused of trespassing, slashing and burning grades of areas of public land and illegally selling it to a farmer.
In a statement, the Federal Police said the group’s crimes have cost up to $220 million.
Five men and women have been arrested in the state of Pará, in the north of the country.
