Colts player under investigation for ‘widespread’ betting on NFL, including bets on his own team: report

The NFL is investigating an unidentified Indianapolis Colts player for possible violations of the league’s wagering policy, according to multiple reports.

A report of SportsHandle.com he cited an investigation into a Colts player who had «widespread» bets, which included bets placed on his own team.

ESPN made the Colts acknowledge the investigation, saying in a statement, «We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will not comment further at this time.»

The NFL declined to comment on the situation when asked by Fox News Digital.

Play in the NFL has been a hot topic this offseason, considering the Detroit Lions have suspended four players for playing violations.

Receiver Quintez Cephus and safety CJ Moore were suspended indefinitely for gambling on the games, and receivers Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill were given a six-game suspension for the next season.

There was also Washington Commanders safety Shaka Toney, who has been suspended indefinitely for violating policy.

Detroit kept only Williams on its roster after the league’s disciplinary collapse, as Cephus, Moore, and Berryhill were released by the organization. Williams was the team’s first round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Last season, Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowl receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for a year after an investigation found he was betting on NFL games while away from the team due to mental health issues. That came on a five-game skid.

The Falcons then traded Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he will return to the field this season following his reinstatement in March.

Sports betting has become widely accepted in professional sports, and especially in the NFL with sponsorship deals with sports books and other entities attracting fans to place bets on game days.

However, each league has game policies that players must adhere to.

League policy states that NFL players may not bet on any game, regardless of whether it is their own team or another matchup.

NFL players can bet on other sports, however, bets cannot be placed inside NFL team facilities.
