‘The Power of the Dog’ leaves Netflix in the UK

The Oscar-winning film the power of the dog is scheduled to leave Netflix in the UK in August 2023 when its short tenure with the streaming service ends.

Director Jane Campion was behind the film that garnered hundreds of awards and nominations. The film starred Benedict Cumberbatch, who played Phil Burbank, a private rancher who is taunted into giving love a chance.

The film received a limited theatrical release before hitting Netflix worldwide on December 1, 2021.

The reason it is leaving Netflix UK is surely because of who owns and financed the film. While Netflix was the main distributor, BBC Films played a major role in the title. In fact, you can find them. celebrating their Bafta victories on the BBC’s official «media centre» (not center in this case, spell check!).

He’s scheduled to drop on August 19, with his last day to see the movie on August 18 technically.

The companion documentary is not scheduled to leave Netflix UK.

This isn’t the only time we’ve seen a Netflix Original removed only from the Netflix UK library. At the end of last year, His house it was removed only from Netflix there and has remained on the service in all other regions since.


Willpower the power of the dog leave Netflix in other countries?

Not the short answer.

Our information suggests that only Netflix in the UK will lose the film. In fact, Netflix has the perpetual rights to the movie in all other countries, which means that as long as Netflix exists, the movie will be a permanent part of the Netflix library.

We don’t have any confirmation on where the movie will stream after it leaves Netflix. Given the connection to BBC Films, you can now jump over to BBC iPlayer for a period of time, but we haven’t heard anything about that yet.

The only definitive way to see the film (legally) in the UK in the future would be to buy the Blu-Ray/DVD release of the film, which entered the Criterion Collection last year.
