World Cup 2022: United States-England attracts a massive audience

The World Cup match between the United States and England drew a huge crowd on Friday as the two teams finished tied 0-0 in one of the most highly anticipated matches in the tournament’s history.

The match numbers were boosted due to the timing of the match. The USA and England played the day after Thanksgiving in the USA and in the middle of the afternoon, giving more people a chance to watch the game while eating leftovers and doing their Christmas shopping.

FOX said on Saturday that the US-England match drew 15,377,000 views, making it the most-watched men’s soccer match on US English television and said viewership was up 14% from the 2014 group stage match against Portugal, in which the two teams drew 2-2 and Cristiano Ronaldo was in his prime.

More than 4.6 million viewers tuned in to the coverage on Telemundo Deportes, Peacock and digital platforms, according to Deadline.

ENGLAND PLAYERS KNEEL BEFORE THE START OF THE WORLD CUP MATCH AGAINST THE UNITED STATES

The USA had a few chances to get past Jordan Pickford as did England against Matt Turner, but both held their own to keep the goals off the board.

England controls their own destiny at this point with a win over Iran and a draw with the USA. The team will need to close out their Group B schedule against Wales.
